“Flying in the USA means flying long hours”

New Smyrna Beach Airport: After a long day’s work you arrive at your apartment with palm trees and take a fresh dive into the swimming pool …

Since some time the Stella aviation academy has also been flying in Florida. Flying in the USA is really something different. It means flying long hours. But students feel a positive “drive”.

Andreas is Deputy Chief Flight Instructor at Stella in the USA. “We fly here from New Smyrna Beach Airport. We start with the preparations about seven o’ clock in the morning and then fly during a great part of the day. The great difference with flying in Teuge and Beek is that the Stella team in America is relatively small. There are three or four instructors on every 24 students”.

He continues: “The conditions are different here. Whereas you fly three times a week in the Netherlands, you sometimes fly eight times a week in America. Furthermore, the airport here is much more complex than any airport in the Netherlands. We have an airport here with three runways. In addition, there are three other airports within a radius of ten minutes. America is really a country for pilots. It is super. However, students fly long hours in the months that they are here. They also fly so much because they have a positive drive.

And at the end of the day …. Are they satisfied? “ It is important that our students have a satisfied feeling. And, yes, it is super that you can take a fresh dive into the swimming pool at your apartment with palm trees after a long day’s work ….
