Maaike is following in her father’s footsteps
“Initially I wondered whether I should be a doctor. But From the age of fifteen I was absolutely certain that I wanted to be a pilot. I want a profession that offers plenty of variety in which I get to deal with both theory and practice. A profession with considerable responsibility. As a pilot you have to assume a great deal of responsibility for people and machinery! Flying also gives you a tremendous feeling of freedom.”
“My parents originally thought that, like most children who want to be a pilot from a young age, I would eventually end up choosing another profession. But it soon became clear that I was determined to become a pilot. They both supported my decision all the way. In fact my father now looks at my textbooks and is planning to come to one of my lectures. He served as a private pilot in the past.
I’m not worried about finding a job. First I want to fly in Europe, so I get a chance to do lots of take-offs and landings. Then I want to fly intercontinental routes. Maybe together with my boyfriend who’s also training to be a pilot.”
