Answers to frequently asked questions
We understand that you have a lot of questions. The decision to train as a pilot is a big step and you will need to think about it very carefully. Below you find the answers to frequently asked questions. But why not visit one of our Information Days? Then you can ask your questions personally.
Educational requirements
You have a higher level general secondary education (‘HAVO’ or equivalent) diploma, or a pre-university education (VWO) diploma with a range of subjects that includes English, Mathematics B and Physics. You may also qualify if you have a certain upper secondary education (MBO) diploma. If this is the case, we recommend that you contact us so we can assess your specific situation.
Physical fitness
Contrary to what most people think, the fact that you wear glasses does not automatically mean that you cannot be a pilot. Ideally the degree of refractive error should remain between -5 and +5. You can even train to be a pilot with a refractive error of up to -8, as long as you do not have a genetic eye disorder. As part of the selection process you will have to undergo a flight crew medical examination. If you are not sure how good your eyes are, it is best to have your eyes tested before you apply. Detailed information about the flight crew medical examination can be found on the website of the Aeromedical Expert Centre, an independent centre for flight crew medical examinations in Schiphol Oude Meer.
