What do you need to become a pilot?
Being a pilot is a demanding job. The responsibility is huge and flight schools have fairly rigorous selection procedures. But if you meet the following four requirements, you might just be on your way to becoming a pilot.
1. You are aged between 17 and (ideally) 29 when you start your training.
2. The Netherlands: You have a higher level general secondary education (‘HAVO’ or equivalent) diploma, or a pre-university education (VWO) diploma with a range of subjects that includes English, Mathematics A or B and Physics.
Turkey: You have a university diploma with a range of subjects that includes English, Mathematics and Physics.
English: you have a senior general secondary education diploma
If you do not have Dutch, German or Turkish nationality, please contact us for more information.
3. Fluent in English.
4. Contrary to what most people think, the fact that you wear glasses does not automatically mean that you cannot be a pilot. Ideally the degree of refractive error should remain between -5 and +5. You can even train to be a pilot with a refractive error of up to -8, as long as you do not have a genetic eye disorder. If you are not sure how good your eyes are, it is best to have your eyes tested before you apply. Contact an Aeromedical Expert Centre to make an appointment for an eye test or a flight crew medical examination.
